“You cannot have it all. You can only have a sliver of it all; so pick your sliver well.” – Hugh MacLeod
Bill Gates has a sliver. Warren Buffett, Carlos Slim and Richard Branson have their slivers too.
What sliver do you want? You have to choose, you have to narrow your scope; otherwise, you get lost in a pipe dream. Your vision of your sliver gives you focus, lets you to set your footprint on the mark. From there, you can expand, you can grow your sliver, widen your stance within your dream.
It all starts with a sliver. Make yours a perfectly wonderful sliver.
“Joy is what happens to us when we allow ourselves to recognize how good things really are.” – Marianne Williamson
Gratitude is your force multiplier. Leverage it. Take the time to recognize all the abundance that shows up in your life. When you appreciate, nourish, and cultivate all that positive energy, you allow it to thrive and yield even more abundance – beyond your wildest expectations.
“Goals are a road map, not a funnel.”
Goals are about focus, not fixation. There are many paths that can open and lead you to your life of excellence and mastery, lead you to your dreams. Stay receptive.
You have options. You can shift paths on your journey, discover new opportunities and destinations. There are no limits in your wonderful life. And if you ever find you’re stuck in the funnel, remember that you can change direction, reinvent yourself, discover new, and greater, possibilities.
Live your perfect life – fully.
“Embrace the suck.” – military-speak
You can hate what you’re doing, and love it, at the same time. You can do the dirty work, the grunt work – the hard and often irritating work that’s part of your journey to getting what you want, arriving where you want to be. Embracing the suck is about doing the things many are too wimpy to attempt. It’s about re-engineering your attitude, and slogging through difficulty – sometimes mind-numbing difficulty – without whining and complaining.
You’re a warrior. You suck it up, do the really hard stuff, and bask in the certainty that you’re moving forward on your journey to your dreams. You know that success is work, and lots of it. Sexy, no. But you embrace it, and keep rocking.
“The test of character is not ‘hanging in there’ when you expect a light at the end of the tunnel, but performance of duty and persistence of example when you know that no light is coming.” – Admiral James Stockdale, USN – former prisoner of war in North Vietnam, in solitary confinement for 7 years
It’s far easier to stay the course when the outcome is reasonably certain. Persistence is tested at an entirely different level when you don’t know if or when your desired outcome, your dream, will ever show up.
Recognize that hopelessness is your enemy. Recognize that you can cultivate persistence, you can nurture moral strength and character, you can overcome hopelessness even when the odds seem to be against you. You can become the person who refuses to doubt the outcome, who knows you will prevail, who turns difficulty into a defining experience.
Persistence, moral strength, and certainty of outcome start when you choose to embrace hope, to reject helplessness, and to do the right thing. Your general order of the day – today, and everyday – is to do the right thing.
“We cannot go back. We can only go forward.” -M. Scott Peck, M.D.
Here in-lies a bittersweet truth of evolving into consciousness. Once we see, we can never unsee. We can never go back. Find comfort in knowing that ignorance is, in fact, not bliss. Since we cannot go back, we must grow up. Growing up is not a destination to reach. Growing up is an ever ongoing process, not to actually be achieved. Growing up is the journey of life itself. We can only go forward on this journey, sometimes painfully, into increasingly deeper levels of consciousness. Continue reading Consciousness | Growing, Pain, Healing and Joy
“For what it’s worth: it’s never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.”
― F. Scott Fitzgerald
“Actually, I just woke up one day and decided I didn’t want to feel like that anymore, or ever again. So, I changed. Just like that.”
