10 Ways to Get Happy in the Next 10 Minute

Have the cares of this world gotten you down? The hustle and bustle of everyday life can be hectic at times. So if you’re feeling under the weather, here are 10 quick ideas that will be sure to boost your spirits in as little as 10 minutes.

  1. Catch some rays. Spending 10 minutes in direct sunlight will trigger your body to produce vitamin D. The deficiency of this vitamin in one’s body has been linked to depression. By stepping outside to feel the sun, you will also have a moment to breath in some fresh air and clear your conscience.
  2.  The list of gratitude. If your attitude is moving towards the negative side, an awesome way to stop a bad mood in its tracks is by counting your blessings. Literally take the time to think of or write down a list of things you are grateful for. It can be anything, like being able to drive home from work instead of walking or being thankful for your good health. After a distinct ten minute list, you will be bound to smile.
  3. Here comes the groom. If you’re feeling icky on the inside, sprucing up the outside may help to bring you happiness. Taking a bath or a shower is a good enough feeling on it’s own and if you add in untangling any knots from your hair or treating your pesky stretch marks, a cheerful heart will be soon to come.
  4. Fake it until you make it. If you put a smile on your face, even if you are unhappy, it will eventually cause you to think of more positive things. Try acting happy for 10 minutes regardless of the circumstance. At the end, you will feel better than you did 10 minutes prior.
  5. Drop a line. Reaching out to an acquaintance or a loved one about your situation can be relieving and elevate your mood. Your whole thought pattern will change for the better after venting to a friend.
  6. Finding Chuckles. Taking a break to watch a funny video clip online or an excerpt from a comedian’s movie monologue would help to turn your frown upside down. It’s hard to pout while watching some quality stand-up.
  7. Work it out. Exercising for ten minutes will get the blood flowing, causing your body to release endorphins, which are mood boosting chemicals.
  8. Play fetch. Hang out with your pets. Research has shown that spending a few minutes with your cat or dog can increase your serotonin levels.
  9. Charity. It is hard to feel sorry for yourself while helping others. Consider doing a good deed like buying a meal for a friend or complimenting a stranger. While you spend 10 minutes uplifting others, in return, your day will brighten.
  10. Up for the Task? We all have a to-do list for the day. Pick out a few quick tasks that can be completed within ten minutes and act on it. The sense of accomplishment will lighten the load and bring out a smile.
