INGREDIENTS
4-amino-3-phenylbutyric acid (Phenibut) is a derivative of the naturally occurring inhibitory neurotransmitter γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA). It has been reported to possess nootropic actions for its ability to improve neurological functions. It is generally accepted to have anxiolytic effects. The literature reports almost no negative side effects, with only an increase in sleepiness observed. There are reports of withdrawal symptoms on blogs and it is not to be mixed with alcohol or other sedatives.
L-theanine is a glutamic acid analog or amino acid derivative primarily found in green tea. It has been shown to reduce mental and physical stress, and improve cognition and mood. Its primary effect seems to increase the overall level of the brain inhibitory transmitter GABA. It increases dopamine levels. Its effect on serotonin is still a matter of debate. It promotes alpha wave production in the brain. Studies on test rats have shown even repeated, extremely high doses of theanine cause little to no harmful psychological or physical effects. It has been shown to both reduce the time that it takes a person to fall asleep as well as decrease the number of nighttime awakenings. It may help the body’s immune response to infection by boosting the disease-fighting capacity of gamma delta T Cells.
5-Hydroxytrptophan (5-HTP) is a naturally occurring amino acid and chemical precursor as well as metabolic intermediate in the biosynthesis of the neurotransmitters serotonin and melatonin from tryptophan. It is sold over-the-counter in the UK, US and Canada as a dietary supplement for use as an antidepressant, appetite suppressant and sleep aid. It is also marketed in European countries for the indication of major depression. The psychoactive action of 5-HTP is derived from its effect on the production of serotonin in central nervous system tissue. More specifically, 5-HTP increases the production of serotonin. It is typically sold in 50 mg or 100 mg capsules. Refer to the Wikipedia article for an unfortunate list of possible risks or side effects.
