SCARF Model – Influcencing Others with Dr David Rock

    Notes:

  • Minimize Danger vs. Maximize Reward
  • Engagement
  • Carrot and Stick
  • SCARF – Status, Certainty, Autonomy, Relatedness, Fairness
  • Motivation
  • Status – Perception of where you are in relation to people around you.
  • Certainty – Ambiguity generates a danger response. The brain is always trying to predict.
  • Autonomy – Stress is amplified by sense of no control.
  • Relatedness – When you meet new people your brain perceives danger.
  • Bond: handshake, share, etc.
  • Friend vs. Foe
  • Fairness – A fair exchange activates the reward circuitry.

Do things that generate the reward state to make people smarter, more effective, more engaged and more productive.
