The Authority of Father Time

“Putting something off doesn’t change the constraints applied by our ultimate authority figure – Father Time.” – Bob Riding, Spurious immortality

Time is our most precious asset. It’s important to understand the value of your time. Valet at McDonald’s for $5? But how long would it take you find parking and walk? If you make minimum wage, it may be worth your time to skip the valet. If you’re Warren Buffet, I assure you it’s not.

In most cases, the issue is less abstract. Are you a procrastinator? Have you asked yourself whether you would enjoy an hour of procrastination more than 5 minutes completing the task and 55 minutes of freedom? In most cases, it makes sense to develop awareness and self discipline to complete tasks instead of dragging them out.

That said, don’t become such a work horse that you fall pray to completing irrelevant tasks. Remember first to understand the value of your time. If a task is unimportant, does not add as much value as it detracts, or will be irrelevant soon, consider a better use of your time. If the task is important and adds lasting value, do it now then get back to enjoying your life.

“Why not just do it now, and then move ahead to the next steps in your wonderful life?” – Bob Riding, Spurious immortality
