How To Eat Food

Thought eating was as simple as putting food in your mouth? Well, maybe it is. Chew on this!

These simple rules will help you adopt a bio-consumption-healthy lifestyle. Don’t try to make lifestyle changes in leaps and bounds. Can you say relapse? Start at the top and work your way down. Bon apetite!

Eat food.
Not too much.
Mostly plants.
(Michael Pollan)

Avoid trans fat,
high fructose corn syrup,
and packaged foods.

Eat often,
especially after you wake
and after physical activity.

Balance macronutrients.
Supplement with protein shakes if necessary
to tailor your macronutrient intake levels to your lifestyle.

Balance micronutrients.
Take a multivitamin
or make sure you’re getting enough
of the essential vitamins and minerals.

If you have any questions,
don’t hesitate to ask.
If the answer is long or complex
I may dedicate an article to you.

Hey there, i'm sure you don't remember me but, i'm Casey's sister and i'm pretty sure i met you last year when i was out there and we had a bday party for him. I was on his FB and for some reason you caught my attention and come to find out your into health and nutrition which is a HUGE part of my life. Anyway, I wanted to make a side note on your multivitamin comment. I think you could help your viewers out even more given this piece of information. You may already know this but, when choosing a quality multi it's important to watch what type of ingredients are in the multi as well as the dosing. Human's can't absorb the type of "rock form" nutrients that that plants use. For example, our bodies can't use the "oxide or carbonate" forms that plants use. We CAN use nutrients that are from glycinate, ascorbate, maleate, fumerate, and other Krebs cycle salts. It's also crucial that you make sure the mg dosing is a few 100 to a few 1000 percentage points OVER the RDA, which is the %'s you always see on the label to the far right. The number one cause of vitamin and nutritional failure is under dosing. Also, if it has quality ingredients the nutrients will usually be listed in more than one form which is the more activated form. For example, B6 would be listed as partially in pyridoxal five-phosphate and partially in pyridoxine hydrochloride. Another thing is to always watch out for binders and filler, artificial sweeteners, chemical additives, and dairy. Obviously you want the purest vitamin. If you DID already know this, i'm sorry for wasting your time =) and if not, i hope you enjoyed it =) If you would like to know more you can always contact me as well as visit http://www.obrienrx.com and look around. Casey and I's family own this place which is a compounding pharmacy and holistic center where we deal with vitamins and nutritional supplementation day in and day out. I say "we" because i work there while i'm in school, which is how i know a lot of what i know. It's amazingly interesting and useful. I think you'd enjoy it if you are really into whole body wellness.

      Emmie,

Great to hear from you. I agree; my readers could certainly benefit from more detail relating to the absorption rates and preferred forms of vitamins and other supplements. I'll make a concerted effort to help my readers understand what you've highlighted here. If you're ever inspired to contribute a post to my blog, send me an e-mail.

      Thanks for your interest!
