“Periods in the wilderness are not lost time.” – Anne Lamott
There are times when the road is clearly in view. We travel the path, oblivious to the possibility of becoming lost. Then something happens. Somehow we lose our way, take the wrong fork in the road, or find the path now obscured by the overgrowth, the darkness, of the wilderness.
We all spend time in the wilderness; sometimes we spend multiple periods of our lives in the wilderness. Circumstances constantly change, opportunities – the good times – wax and wane.
Time in the wilderness need not be a time of despair. It can be a time of self-examination, of personal discovery, of positive change. It can be a time where we seek, and find, the better path. It depends on the attitude we take, and the choices we make, when we lose our way.
