I still can’t believe I banged up my toe so badly. I’m dying to go for a run. I can barely walk but I almost went for a jog around the block tonight. My patience is wearing thin but self-control has kept me at bay, for now. I’m fast approaching my wits end without the wondrous catharsis of running. I need to be patient and let my toe fully recover before indulging myself if I want this to be more than a one night stand. What am I going to do with myself in the meantime?
I’m Not Dead Yet
If you’re still breathing, you can exercise. You have a broken foot. So what? Upper body is still fully accessible. Replace push ups with knee push ups if necessary. For lower body, get in the pool as soon as possible and work your way up to bike and body weight exercises like squats and lunges. Depending on your specific injury, you may be able to perform some exercises more easily than others. For example, I may never be able to do lunges comfortably because of my silly toe, but I can already squat cautiously without taking much of a risk.
When All Else Fails
Take a break! A week or two of total rest and relaxation every now and then can be a wonderful thing. After every week long lazy vacation I’ve ever taken, I’ve always come back stronger than ever. Hell, pack your crutches and take a vacation. Use this opportunity to venture from your cave and find yourself a partner in crime. I won’t think less of you for pity point fishing.
