Dare the effort

“Make it your job to do what you don’t want to do.”

Few get up an hour earlier each morning – to start the day and engage the world while most stay cozy in bed.  Few will embrace the difficult task when an easy way out is in sight. And fewer still will dare the big effort – the sacrifice today – for a payoff that’s not quite in view.

Life is about what you need to do, not what you want to do. Doing what you don’t want to do is the mojo that separates achievers from also-rans.  Make it your job to do what you don’t want to do.

I’ve finally been waking up early. I get up every day before 5:00 AM to get down to LA Fitness in Long Beach to train my early morning clients. I’m able to wake up early if I have a commitment to another human being.

I make a point of trying to make a habit (repeating an action for an extended period of time) out of some things that I don’t necessarily want to do but believe will improve my life/body/mind etc in some way. I’m results driven so it is enough for me to follow the above rule and if I enjoy the results the habit easily sticks. If I do not see results or anticipate results the “habit” is often dropped.
