My Major Desire In Life
Napoleon suggested an exercise involving two pages of a notebook. I’m stuck on page 1.
On page 1, write down a clear description of your major desire in life – the one circumstance or position or thing that you will be willing to accept as your idea of success. Your only limitations are those which you set up in your own mind.
The last time I performed an exercise like this (less than a week ago in a pocket notebook I already keep), I ended up with a timeline of goals that went well beyond a century…
- Timeline of Goals
- Age: 30 – 5 Years – Money game beat.
- Age: 35 – 5 Years – NYC kingdom.
- Age: 40 – 5 Years – LA -> world fame.
- Age: 45 – 5 Years – Tokyo & world renowned.
- Later years include running for president, organizing a World Government Council and bio-chemically engineering a product called Bio Save & Restore to defeat aging and restore youth. You get the picture…
A modest list for an aggressive overachiever, or flexible/ambiguous at least (not necessarily a good thing). But the main takeaway here is that I have more than a few near-impossible goals – stay tuned for a lifetime of disappointment. Bullet 1 – Most people spend their lives trying to beat the money game, and fewer and fewer are successful after 65 years of direct and indirect effort. Is my 5 years to beating the money game realistic? Is this laundry list of epic achievements testament to a swollen ego or can I justify my genuine desire to do, achieve and experience as much as I possibly can before my time here is through?
My Major Desire In Life
Perhaps there we have it – my major desire in life. Page 1: I want to do, achieve and experience as much as I possibly can. It seems a bit vague and is not exactly “one circumstance or position or thing” but it’s better than nothing. What’s your major desire in life?
