The burden of necessary achievement

“Lift the weight of necessary achievement.”

When I realized I wasn’t a prodigy, I could exhale, I could join the larger world.

Too often, we become burdened by the high expectations of others, as well as the unrealistic, self-imposed pressures to achieve. We find ourselves living within a closed room of our own making, walled in by the “musts” we impose on our lives.  It robs us of the freedom to explore possibilities, to discover true passions.  It robs us of the license to dare to fail, to make mistakes, and learn in the process.

Sometimes you have to release the pressure, you have to admit that you aren’t perfect – that you can fail, and probably should fail from time to time.  And then dare to fail, to be less than perfect.  Otherwise, how will you learn, how will you grow, how will you become a genuinely whole person?

It’s time to exhale.
