The illusion of control is seductive, partly because it sometimes works.
You make a plan, it succeeds, and your mind considers that evidence that you do have control. You conveniently forget all the times a similar plan or approach failed. Sometimes things work out despite us, not because of us.
Be self-aware; pull back when you have slipped in the illusion of control. Recognize that what you do possess is the ability do better planning, better preparation and better risk assessment so that your actions, and desired outcomes, have a higher chance to work out. That is not control, that is managing risk.
Be a better risk manager.
