Vladimir Putin Speech at the Munich Press Conference in Germany

I must admit, international politics is not my strong point. For many reasons, I expect the daunting web of world economics, politics and law will be my final intellectual frontier. It feels only natural to have begun with the simplicity of math and science and to have progressed through interests in physics and chemistry and engineering and recently into the realms of emotional self and interpersonal relations. I expect my conceptual explorations will come to a peak with world politics – a complex web of inter-related people and theories, powers and forces that can be viewed from infinite angles and levels and debated from countless perspectives. With that disclaimer, I’m excited to share this remarkable video of Russian prime minister Vladimir Putin giving a speech at the Munich Press Conference in Germany and I’d love to hear what you think in the comments.

Just to note, I think this speech is 4 years old. I find it very odd that a former KGB agent wants to talk about a unipolar world being a bad idea, when he himself fought to help the Soviet Union be the a single superpower. This speech is a speech of a Russia that feels very threatened and boxed into corner. It is also a pretty empty speech, as Putin and Russia are guilty of every accusation he made. (Especially on death penalties and UN resolutions, literally months before this speech Russian tanks stormed Georgia… and Russian troops are still there today, 4 years later, and he wants the US to take him seriously on UNSC resolutions?) This is a typical Russian stance on foreign policy, it hasn’t changed since the end of the cold war, and now that Putin is coming back into power, after yet another rigged election, no one should be surprised if this type of rhetoric starts popping up again.

      John,

I appreciate your outlook which seems far more educated than my own. Additionally, you have navigated this topic and shared your opinion in a way I find admirably inoffensive. I’m hard-pressed to offer anything of comparable value in return. Thanks for your comment and the education.

      Sincerely,
      Geoff
