I prefer to say yes, instead of no, and learn along the way. (Richard Branson)
We say no because our curiosity does not outweigh our fear. Fear that’s too often based on ignorance, misinformation and reliance on faulty conventional wisdom.
We become trapped in our own way of thinking, our own way of relating to people with new or different ideas, our own way of responding to challenges. We become trapped because we fail to ask, and you can’t search for answers to questions that haven’t been asked.
Curiosity is the door to learning, the door to unmasking unfounded fear, the door to creativity and innovation. It’s the catalyst for understanding the world, and then changing it.
We’re all born curious. As toddlers we examined and tested and tried everything we encountered. Somewhere along the line we let fear hold us back. Isn’t it time to once again awaken our curiosity and say YES?
