“Do I contradict myself?
Very well then I contradict myself;
I am large, I contain multitudes.”
– Walt Whitman, from Song of Myself
We so often look at contradiction as something to avoid, but contradiction also evidences change; even positive change. Next time you find yourself doing something seemingly contradictory, something that surprises other people or yourself, step back and remember that you contain multitudes.
Know that you are large. Know that contradiction can be a sign of change, of progress, of the emergence of the new you.
