Well begun is half done – attributed to Aristotle, among others.
The first order of business is to establish order – to gain control over chaos before you solve anything inside it. Create order in your space. Order in your priorities. Order in your decisions.
The hardest part isn’t the work itself – it’s knowing where to start. Establishing order removes that friction before you even touch the problem you’re trying to solve.
Clear the clutter. Mental and physical clutter clouds your attention in the same way – a full inbox, a full mind, and a messy workspace make it hard to see what’s in front of you. You can’t think clearly in a space that competes for your attention.
Decide what matters. You will stay stuck until you decide what’s most important. Ranking is the progress, even before you act.
Choose how you will decide. It matters as much as what you decide. Create criteria. Find a repeatable way to make thoughtful choices – so each decision doesn’t start from zero, and you’re not debating the same issues every time another or similar problem comes up.
Well begun begins when you get control over chaos.
