Exclusion as environment

We want our world to be predictable and safe, and we design a comfortable lifestyle, a refuge to ensure both – our own personal HOA. 

What protects us can also keep us small.  Over time the refuge becomes a prison.   It doesn’t announce itself.  It happens gradually. We avoid or exclude one uncomfortable thing, then another, and each avoidance we justify as reasonable and prudent.  We build a wall around ourselves, invisible from the inside, where every brick laid seems like a good decision.  Yet the wall isn’t defense, it’s dependency.

The difficulty is that we rarely achieve predictability by improving order, we get it by subtracting variables.  In turn, we make our world and our lives small.
