The stress of novelty

Some people like what’s new; some don’t. I prefer the positive stress of novelty.

Meeting new people, taking on a new work focus, traveling to unfamiliar places—even finally reading that big book I’ve been avoiding for the past year.

Novelty brings stress. The important thing is to find the positive stressors within what’s new and use them to grow  – some call describe it as eustress (my new word of the day).

When I learn new skills, spend time with people who are different from me, travel to unfamiliar places, I get to move beyond my comfort zone.  I get the chance to find delight in novelty.

Otherwise, I am stuck in the status quo, caught in a repetitive grind of daily sameness.
